Hidemyass Review – My Experience Using HMA Pro VPN

I’m going to start by telling you a little about myself and perhaps you will be able to relate.

Towards the end of 2013 I moved abroad to Europe (Budapest, Hungary specifically).

I was super excited to be living overseas and loved everything about being an Expat.

I’ve now been living abroad for over a year and there’s only one major complaint I have…

I couldn’t figure out how to watch Netflix abroad or figure out how to gain access to American websites like Pandora, Hulu, Fox, CBS, ABC, Spotify, and many others.

It wasn’t long before I realized that my new european IP address would prevent me from accessing US based websites and US based content like Netflix, Hulu, Pandora, and many others.

I spent countless hours, even days trying to fix the problem and gain access to Netflix and other American sites.

I tried a bunch of programs and proxy sites that just didn’t work.

I knew I needed a way to change my foreign IP address to an American  IP address.

After a lot of searching, I finally found an awesome solution that worked called HideMyAss VPN!

HideMyAss Review: How To Gain Access To US Only Content While Abroad

Here’s the Deal

When you go to Netflix.com or other American only websites, your IP address is being checked by to see where in the world you are located. Take Netflix for example, if you try to access the website from a standard connection outside the USA you’ll see a message that reads “Service is not currently available in your area.”

Simply put, if your computer shows an IP address outside of the US you will be blocked from accessing content on Netflix.com.

To fix this you need to change the IP on your computer to show an IP address that is located in the US. That’s it!

It may sound complicated but don’t worry – it’s super easy to do this even if you’re not a “computer person.”

How To Change Your IP Address

To change your IP address you need to have a VPN setup up (this stands for Virtual Private Network).

The speed of the server you connect to is important as well because you are going to be streaming video from Netflix. For this reason and many more, HideMyAss is the best VPN option for Instant Netflix Video streaming. I’ve never had a problem with support or anything after my initial installation about 1 year ago. That should tell you something!

HideMyAss work on both Apple (MAC) and PC computers. I am currently using a MacBook and HideMyAss works great. A colleague of mine runs the same program on Windows and has no problems either!

After signup, you can download the program right away and it is super easy to setup. This is what it should look like after installation:

You’ll also have access to hundreds of IP Addresses so you can make your computer look like its in Las Vegas, Manhattan, or any other US city for that matter.

You can also change you IP address to other foreign locations. Essentially you can give the impression that you virtually reside in any number of destinations.

Once everything is installed all you need to do is enter in your Username and Password (the one you selected at signup) and simply click “Connect to VPN.” In about 10 seconds your IP will show up like you are in the US and Netflix, along with other US based websites, will work perfectly.

Below you can see how I changed my IP from my Hungarian address to one in Chicago.

Currently I’m a month to month plan with Hidemyass. I pay them $11.52 for unlimited usage and I use the program on about 3 different laptops at home! I use the program so often that it has become a no brainer. I’ve even used it to login to American bank accounts so as to not be locked out based on the various IP address I’m on when I travel.

HideMyAss is quick, cheap, and easy and I highly recommend it to anyone traveling or living / studying abroad. It’s a pretty awesome tech/life hack if you ask me!
